BEYERS,
Robert G. Robert G. Beyers, 79, of Bristol, husband of
Dorothy "Dottie" (Eisenhofer) Beyers, died on Sunday (February
24, 2008) at Bristol Hospital. Mr. Beyers was born in New
Britain on July 1, 1928 and was a son of the late Francis and
Henrietta (Lauer) Beyers. He attended local schools and worked
various jobs before entering the United States Navy as did his
three brothers to serve in World War II. He was honorably
discharged from the Navy in 1949 and he then entered the Air
Force to serve in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in
1952 as a Staff Sergeant. In his eight years of service, the
medals he received include the Good Conduct Medal, the Korean
Service Medal with bronze star, the Japanese Occupation Medal,
and the World War II Victory Medal. He worked for Baldwin Filter
Co. for 20 years before retiring in 1994. Bob enjoyed auto
racing and was the former race director of the old Plainville
Stadium. He held a private pilot's license and had many other
hobbies. He was a member and past Worshipful Master of the
Village Lodge AF & AM, he was a past commander and quartermaster
of the Wolcott VFW Post 1979, he was also a member of the
American Legion Post 2 and was a life member of the Disabled
American Veterans Post 5. In addition to his wife of over 30
years, Bob is survived by a son, Donald Beyers, and
daughter-in-law, Elizabeth of Burlington; a grandson, Derek and
granddaughter, Brianna; and other family members including
several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on
Thursday (February 28, 2008) at 9 a.m. from Funk Funeral Home,
35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, to St. Gregory Church for a funeral
at 10 a.m. Burial, with military honors, will follow in
Peacedale Cemetery, Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at
the funeral home on Wednesday between 5-8 p.m. Memorial
